Working Student / Apprentice Program
Legacy Hill Farms offers a comprehensive learning package for the right individuals seeking to become future professionals in the equine world. Students are an integral part of the training and sales organization at Legacy Hill Farms. We offer a relaxed, fun but goal oriented atmosphere in which the student can develop all aspects of his/her equestrian knowledge. This opportunity for growth is an invaluable asset. We take our commitment to further the student's knowledge very seriously. Europeans have long ago recognized the need for such programs in their "Bereiter" and "Reitlehrer" curriculums. There is no such program, as such, in the United States. Our program at Legacy Hill Farms is a training program which closely simulates these programs available in Europe.
All students share in the basic daily care of all horses and upkeep of the facility. Each student receives continuous lessons on all ages and training of horses and an overall comprehensive study program of the art of dressage and all aspects of running a quality, successful training and sales facility. If room permits, we welcome students to bring their own horse for their training process. Boarding for these horses will be charged at 85% of the regular board. If chosen to become a working student at Legacy Hill Farms, we offer room and board in a comfortable one or two bedroom apartment plus all living expenses including a stipend for monthly expenses. Packages offered to students are on a case by case basis depending on many factors such as whether students bring their own horse, experience in dressage, etc.. Contact Michelle for more information on your particular situation. Minimum commitment of eight months to one year is preferred. For those who are very serious about becoming an FEI rider and trainer, even longer commitments are rewarded with advancements to our Apprentice Program.
Legacy Hill Farms has accepted students from all over the United States as well as Germany and Holland. For serious riders who are interested in applying for the program, please email us at lhfdressage@wildblue.net . Please include a short bio outlining your riding history and the goals you have. You can also call 303 663 9494 and speak to Michelle directly concerning openings. Note: As of July 2006, LHF has two openings for working students. Please inquire.
