Michelle began her early training with U.S. top riders Susan Halasz Jan Ebeling, Lisa Wilcox, U.S. O judge Axel Steiner and later with German Olympic Gold Medalist Ulla Salzgeber. Each of these incredible professionals were all instrumental in her riding and teaching philosophy. She began competing at the FEI level in 1989 and teaching in 1991. Her passion and dreams for importing and training top dressage horses led she and her husband to build Legacy Hill Farms.
After the completion of LHF in 1998 she began traveling to Germany to import top quality dressage horses, each year expanding her knowledge of what a dressage horse must possess to develop within the sport. Over the span of 12 years she has imported over 300 horses to the United States, successfully training and selling them to clients all over North America. Her most famous import to date is Weltino's Magic, Steffen Peters' new horse, owned by Jen Hlavacek, who topping scores in the Developing Horse classes. Prior to Steffen "taking over the reins" on this phenomenal gelding, Shannon Peters competed "Magic" and won Reserve Champion in the 2008 Young Dressage Horse Championships in Lexington, KY. More to come on Magic and Steffen's successes soon!
In 2000, Michelle began hosting clinics with Ulla Salzgeber and in 2002, she traveled to Germany with two of her FEI horses, Dekor and beloved Emmerson, to train with the gold Olympic medalist. After being fully immersed in Ulla's philosophy and riding style, she returned home to commit herself to the teachings she had learned in Germany.
She has received many awards over the years through FEI . Due to family constraints and operating an international sales facility over these many years, she has had to place competition in the background. Her time now is dedicated to enjoying her 8 year old gelding, Sebastiano, and becoming a life coach while still managing Legacy Hill Farms and teaching serious riders and budding professionals in the sport. Michelle provides clinics throughout the country and training at Legacy Hill Farms. For more information, please contact her at lhfdressage@gmail.com or call 303 663 9494.
